It’s been great posting the weekly posts for this quarter and I’ve loved hearing how you’ve been progressing with your goals. The "Uglies" series is one of those rare cases when both I and my daughter (not yet 11) absolutely agree in our judgment of these books as absolutely brilliant - interesting, original and well written, as well as "mind-twisting", in Westerfeld's definition. I’m hoping to finish The Mars Room in 2019 and plan to read The Course of Love by Alain de Botton as my first read next year. I also started Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy this week, but definitely have not finished (I think I'm hovering at about 10%). It’s still early days but I don’t hate Kushner’s style. I know I’m late to the game with this one but I thought it wasn’t something I was interested in. I’m currently reading The Mars Room by Rachel Kushner.

The retelling of One Thousand and One Nights worked for me, so whilst I originally anticipated reading about a quarter I ended up consuming it in an afternoon. However, The Wrath & The Dawn by Renee Ahdieh had other plans and drew me in really quickly. My new strategy was to lean into my downward spiral and I thought I'd pick up a YA Fantasy/Romance I've owned for a while. I guessed on of the big plot twists from the blurb, the writing was very simplistic and ultimately it bombed for me.

I had hoped this would work as a light beach read and although it was a fast read I didn't find it enjoyable. I had hoped to sort of course correct what seemed like the start of a downwards spiral with a predictable thriller, The Ex by Nicola Moriarty. I really had to motivate myself to get through this one, so unfortunately I don’t recommend. Gentlemen of the Road by Michael Chabon was surprisingly difficult to get through considering how much I enjoyed The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay back in the day. I’m hoping that things pick up in City of Dragons but unsure when I’ll start that. I finished Dragon Haven by Robin Hobb and was still disappointed with the Rain Wild Chronicles so far. This week I plowed through 4 reads which is mostly due to extra time on my hands as I’m on break until the new year and some unexpectedly easy binge reads. We're here guys! It's the last week of 2019! I hope that everyone got through some great reads this year!! How did you go with your own goal? Let me know below and also let me know what reads you’ve finished recently or trying to squeeze in before 2020 :)
